Hiking Trails on the East Side of Glacier
This is a small selection of some of our favorite trails around the east side.
Two Medicine Entrance:
Running Eagle Falls: Only .7 miles for the entire loop and you get to see a very cool waterfall with historical importance (hint: it concerns a Blackfeet warrior woman).
Upper Two Medicine Lake: An 11. 3 mile out and back trail. This trip could be made significantly shorter by taking the scenic boat ride across Two Medicine Lake to reduce the mileage.
Dawson-Pitamakan Pass Loop: A gorgeous 18.8 mile loop with an elevation gain of nearly 4,000 ft. Experienced hikers only.
Many Glacier Entrance:
Red Rock Falls: This is a relatively flat trail to a lovely waterfall. It’s 3.7 miles out and back but you can make that even longer by continuing past the falls towards Swiftcurrent Pass. There are almost always moose in nearby Fishercap Lake.
Iceberg Lake: 9. 6 miles out and back trail but be prepared for about 1,500 ft of elevation gain. It’s well worth it though as the lake often has icebergs well into July and is framed by spectactular cliffs.
Cracker Lake: Not often included in guides, this is one of the lesser hiked trails in the Many Glacier area. The lake is a gorgeous glacier blue and it’s a great way to avoid crowds if you’re looking for a more challenging hike. 12.8 miles out and back and 1,700 ft of elevation gain.

Dining and grocery Guide
East Glacier has some of the best dining in the region with a number of restaurants.
The Peak: Owned by the Blackfeet Nation, The Peak offers a variety of dinner options including burgers, steak, a local desserts.
Burger Box: A permanent food truck located just down the road at the entrance to East Glacier, the Burger Box offers burgers (obviously), as well as frybread and Indian tacos and on special occasions, “Menudo,” my personal favorite!
Rising Sun Pizza: Blackfeet woman owned (Jennie Walter), this pizzaria is located in St. Mary. There’s nothing quite like finishing a full day of hiking with a whole pizza.
IGA and Glacier Family Foods: These are the “big” grocery stores located in the town of Browning. They both have comparable prices and selections including delis, fresh fruit and veg, and meat.
Cattle Baron Supper Club: Known for their famous steaks, the Cattle Baron has been a destination eatery for years. Located just outside the Many Glacier Entrance in the town of Babb.
Serranos Mexican Restaurant: directly in the heart of East Glacier ( 29 Dawson Ave), Serranos offers authentic “Montana Mexican,” food (and my daughter works there).
